No previous meetings have taken place between these two players at the highest level but they did face off on the Challenger circuit recently. Goffin had won that match, the final, in straight sets to win the title.

The sixth seeded Goffin did not have to sweat too much in his straight set win over Lukas Klein with the Belgian taking an hour and 28 minutes to get there.
Goffin saved all of the six break-points he faced in the match while getting better of his opponent’s serve on three occasions to win 6-2, 6-4 and move to round two.
In what was Goffin’s first main draw win since the second round victory at the Auckland Open on January 11 this year, he won more 70% of his service points, while also clinching 42% of his opponent’s serves. The win would have given Goffin some relief following his opening round exit at the Rotterdam Open where he had lost to Gregoire Barrere.
Things might not become too much more difficult for Goffin in the second round either but he will know he will need to remain as focussed as he was in his opener if he wants to make it two in two here.

The only other tournament this year where Ymer did win a main draw match, he had made it to the quarterfinal in Adelaide International 2. As a qualifier there, he had gotten the better of Emil Ruusuvuori and Mackenzie McDonald in that tournament.
Since then the Swede had failed to do much of note at the highest level although there was that finals appearance at the Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve challenger late last month where he had gone down to Goffin.
A first round exit at both, Montpellier and Rotterdam had followed suit for Ymer, making it hard to believe he was that big a favourite coming into his first round match here against Radu Albot.
Ymer, 3/10 to win his opener, did face some difficulties in the second set, but still came through 6-3, 7-6 (5) to claim his place in round two. Things could a lot more difficult now though.
Goffin will be a favourite here and at 4/5, those are solid odds to opt for his win. The games handicap seems to be a good market too.
